Not much here, china here is considered as a revoked Manslaughter Stalin backwater, and the only thing we should have in common with it is imported crappy toys.

Well, that sucks.

China's just simply keeping to itself the way I see it. Not launching a war or whatnot (like America's OIL) keeps things rather peaceful and qaint. Unfortunately, that same peace can also attract some unwanted attention if something DOES happen.

Like the rioting and protesting and earthquakes. Sad Either everybody is with China or against her. It's too bad the ones against her usually win out because of the way media is run today... T_T Crying or Very sad

I tried to learn Chinese myself here in Ireland but after three years of going to classes I'm still not very good. When you don't come from the country where it is a first language it can be really hard to pick up.

Talking of Ireland, it is true that Chinese is ahead of Irish as the most commonly spoken language. A few years ago the fascists here tried to organise around that fact. There was a racist murder of a Chinese man in Dublin and the Chinese and anti-racist community came out to demonstrate in protest. However, while we were gatherring outside the GPO we saw three Nazis photographing the crowd. We chased them but that time they got away. It just shows though, how such issues can be used by reactionary forces to gather support.

If you learn a new language, you'd better practise it from time to time.

I would try to learn Chinese, but I heard it's extremely difficult, you have to learn 800 characters just to read a newspaper. Is this true?

Actully,I'm a Chinese,I don't know how many words you should learn for reading newspaper.
But I have met many people whose Chinese is very good.
And you don't need to read newspaper, just talk to others, that quiet good.
