n 1977 Koocher published a strong reaction of the study, focusing on short difference between violation of personal privacy and scientific observations of individuals. Koocher feared that the research would lead to a “veritable flood of
bathroom research”.
Middlemist et al. wrote a reply to Koocher in the same edition of the journal that later was published. They wrote about how they had carefully
considered ethical issues of the study. They also wrote that all of the participants they had interviewed, had found the research acceptable.
The Journal editor decides to publish Middlemist et al.'s paper in despite of the critic.
