Mao Tse Tung: Hero or Tyrant ?

Chairman Mao Tse Tung is considered a great revolutionary by some and a tyrant by others both inside and outside of the PRC.

I would like to open this to discussion.

Mao himself was a bad ruler and his doctrine is a branch of Stalinism so he was a traitor to Marxism-Leninism.

During his rule, China stopped being a european colony and develloped into a socialist nation. Unpure form of socialism is anyway better than any form of capitalism.

Ya, Mao was a hard line Stalinist. He split with the soviet union because he thought Khrushchev was too "liberal". Plus there's the "cultural revolution"...
