His methods were ineffective. You cannot fight violence without violence. His ideas were not bad, but I can't call him a hero, though.

I think Gandhi was an amazing person, and I thank him for being a direct influence on my own personal politics, even though he is a cliche answer. I predict the day where people, honestly, forget that he ever actually existed, and tell his story in mythical proportions. That's how unbelievable of a human being he was.

The only thing he did that actually effected India was contribute to partition and the subsequent genocide.
India gained independence because Britain was too weak to maintain the occupation after World War 2, NOT because of anything Gandhi did.
Apart from that, he was a racist pedophile.

I've heard people try and misconstrue that Gandhi was anti-semetic, but, in my eyes, there is a HUGE difference between anti-semetism and anti-Zionism, which I wouldn't necessarily argue that Gandhi was, but it's a more likely possibility that he was an anti-Zionist than an anti-semite. I would say he was neither Zionistic nor anti-Zionistic... he was just opposed to violence, both by the Jews and the Palestinians.

If he said anything about any other group, I haven't heard about it.

I meant when he lived in South Africa and said that Indians there should be treated better but blacks deserved to be discriminated against.

I was going to bring that up. He was an unforgiving racist and a male chauvinist at that.

The only reason his "methods" succeeded is precisely the point Olig arch pointed out. It's stupid to apply his methods ever. To get down to the point, that bitch got lucky.

Try that Civil disobedience/hunger strike shit in nazi germany and see what happens.

I am sorry but this is a flat out lie. Ghandi repeatedly quoted verses from all three of the "middle-east" religions. How could you be an anti-zionist if you belive in the message of jesus?(even if he was not a christian)
