Olga Shatunovskaya was a true communist who fought for human rights, was a prisoner of Stalin's regime, survived and was decorated with the highest Soviet medals!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olga_Shatunovskaya

Olga Shatunovskaya, a member of the Soviet Commission of Party Control, and head of a special commission during the 1960s appointed by Khrushchev, has concluded in her report that "from January 1, 1935 to June 22, 1941, 19,840,000 enemies of the people were arrested. Of these, seven million were shot in prison, and a majority of the others died in camp." These figures were also found in the papers of Politburo member Anastas Mikoyan. Historian Dmitri Volkogonov, head of a special Russian parliamentary commission, citing KGB documents available after the fall of the USSR concluded that "from 1929 to 1952, 21.5 million [Soviet] people were repressed. Of these a third were shot, the rest sentenced to imprisonment, where many also died."

7 Million political prisoners shot? I have to admit, this looks like nothing more than Kruschevite propaganda to justify his anti-communist coup. A coup backed up by Mikoyan. The reality is that the 'millions killed by Stalin' myth is a western construct as part of the bourgeois attempt to label communism as worse than Nazism.

There were of course large numbers of peoople executed during the 1937 purges but these are most likely to have numbered around 700,000. Whenever peoole talk of the Stalin massacres they always use the image of the Katyn massacre. If Stalin had killed as many as they say he did, then what did he do with the bodies? No-one in human history has ever been able to make large numbers of corpses disappear.

The fact is that when discussing the Stalinist purges, pundits hysterically engage in 'think of a number' estimates. No-one agrees how many died, and the unsupported claims range from 1,000s of millions to 60 million. A sobre analysis of this shows us that little research is being done, and that the citing large numbers is merely an act of propaganda rather than a search for the truth.

While I disagree that Stalin was a communist, I do agree that those "findings" look more like propaganda. Besides, since Gorbachyov's rise, I'd doubt of any "document" and/or statement comming from the KGB's archives.

I don't justify Stalinite repression, but definitely I don't buy anti-stalinist and in general anti-sovit hypocritic propaganda of this kind.

Common sense in action I'd say. I personally staunchly oppose this propaganda for the way it capitalizes on human deaths to advance the agenda of a political system no better than the one of the USSR.

Again, applied common sense. Many make those claims without even taking into account the soviet population in those years nor the population of the Russian Empire. Dismissing some historical data these people make accusations that even defy logic.
