He probably deaccelerated Russias downfall and brought her some growth, however, Russia is still under the capitalist yoke and unfortunately since Putin entered power the Communist party (which nonetheless is not THAT communist) has lost popularity.

If your point is against communism, no country can be used as example since USSR was not communist. USSR like any country with a similar system was a Socialist State Capitalism or what many call a "Deformed workers' State".

USSR lived on capital, yet, it didn't have the aim to produce more than it expended, specially during arms' race periods.

However, USSR did have a great industry, lots of resources, high scientific development and considerable social wellbeing. USSR is no ways could be poor. What made it unstable was its capitalisticity and the failure (or lack of intention) of soviet leaders to instaurate real communism in USSR.

Else, there were no kids in the streets simply because the state wouldn't allow it. Everyone had possibility to have a home.

No people from the USSR I've known, nor from Moscow nor province say they had seen homeless children prior to Gorbachyovian times. There probably were but compared to the situation nowadays they were isolated cases.

Not only was USSR a pioneer in Space technology, it was also the most developed country in aeronautics, it was pioneer in Focused Energy Weapons, it had a good enough construction technology, good enough medical science (specially in means of ophtalmology), excelent maritime technology.

USSR scientific development was greatly focused on military development where it excelled always.
