In your opinion do you think there was any good reasons for the Spanish-American war or do you think it was just an imperialist land grab by the U.S.

No, I think it was just expansionism. The Philippines are still a neo-colony.

Yeah, Congress only gave the Philippines its independence in 1946.

It was imperialistic in a sense, but the public supported it because of the USS Maine accident.

Its kind of like the Iraq War now, based on sketchy details.

There's still heavy contraversty about the USS Maine incident to this day in the States. But in all.

I think it was imperialist expansion. Like nearly all other wars the US has "fought" in.

no Iraq is economical, for oil.

the war with the spanish was simply for land on the map.

Actually, the President didn't want to go to war, but popular opinion was against him. (Spanish-American War)

Just like how after 9/11, popular opinion went against Iraq after the Bush Administration made it seem like it had terrorist connections.

The only difference is that one president supported the war, while another didn't.

From the cuba's, puertorrico's and phillippine's point of view, the war meant the exchange of an imperialism (Spain) for another (America).

Cuba, Puerto Rico and Phillippines should have liberated themselves. They were "liberated" by a country which keep them under opression til 1946, 1959 and nowadays.

A mere act of imperialism. Probably the first priority was the strategical importance of Cuba, and then they realized they could actually exploit it economically.

I also think it was imperialism. But that was typical during that time.

Now there is something more effective than imperialism, globalisation... (neo-imperialism)

And it employs both commercial and military tactics!

Wow... you really love to tergiversate things...

Internet is a means of communication.

"Globalisation" is the expansion of the dominant commercial empires and their commercial cultures.
