Free education in Austria again!

ANOTHER SOCIALIST VICTORY!

After 8 years of paid university education, it becomes free of charge in Austria again.

This reform had been passed by the following parties
SPÖ - Social democratic party (moderate left wing)
Grüne - Green party (moderate left wing)
FPÖ - Freedom party (right wing)

The following parties were agains the reform:
ÖVP - People's party (moderate right wing)
BZÖ - Austria's Future (right wing)


Now, only citizens of non EU countries have to pay the fee, which has been halved for them. EU citizens have only to pay the fee, if they study more than a year longer than the preset study length.

This semester is the last semester I paid my fee of 370 Euros per semester!

Our Student Union was fighting hard to achieve this goal!

Finally it has been achieved!



PS: There were elections in October and all the parties, except BZÖ, were propagating that they support a SOCIAL WELFARE STATE, even the right wing FPÖ promoted the idea.

One of the FPÖ slogans was: SOCIAL INSTEAD OF SOCIALIST
Funny, isn't it? The more social it gets, the more socialist it is!

That's a great thing for Austria

Great, keep it out of our movement, etc.

I wish the US governemnt was that sensible.

wow free university? in the US cost like $400,000 to attend (out of state) and 60,000 a year if it is in your state. (so 100,000 a year out of state) and my family has just a few thousand dollars, but it's ok cause I'm not gonna attend college right after Highschool so I will have my own money.

I am getting a free ride but the avg cost for tutition is 35k.. >>

In state, but in VA in state is 60,000. (UVA, V-Tech, etc...) their are shit schools, but I'm not even sure if I'm going to college. My brother is but first hes gonna go to NOVA.

If i rember in Holland its free to, but also a part by your self, and you egt some money evry month from the gov when your at collega..

also here. free and u get SU if you are 18 and study, money for food etc but its very little.

Kenzu, do you really think that's a socialist victory? I'm pretty convinced that socialism doesn't stand for the "distribution of capitalist wealth".

yeah not even harverd is that much dude

100k a year. but most people get a scholarship which lowers it to around 75k a year.

While a socialist state is better than a social welfare state, a social welfare state is nonetheless better than a capitalist state.

Welfare capitalism is still capitalism.

i should move there... theres no way i'm affording college here

welfare is just a petty gift from the bourgeoisie.
i really dont think welfare capitalism is better then regular capitialism.
if anything it is worse.
it creates ruts, in which people get comfortable in.
someone doesnt work they still have steady income, ergo where is motivation to work?
and welfare abuse is a completely different beast.
