| During WWI the third world dominion newfoundland marched of to war, with out funds proper uniforms and a army only organized a few days after accepting the call. it was in the middle of fishing season, and young men leaving the fishery means that starvation would become a huge factor. after the terrors of Beaumont Hamel and others Newfoundlanders returned home. the great war left newfoundland maybe the worst place to live during the depression, it went back to a colony at its own will. in WWII u boats terrorized its seas. in 1939 it became a Provence of Canada, its first premier was portrayed as a hero to the ignorant people of Newfoundland, the new Premier gave all its recourses to mainland Canada, Newfoundland was striped of its pride culture and people and then proclaimed the shit hole of Canada. new recourses are popping up ever were but the mainland still wants it all, even after the promises that Newfoundland and Labrador can keep all its oil. the current premier is fighting for the oil, mineral and other recourses. in 2014 Newfoundland and Labrador is expected to be the leading Provence in Canada. should it separate? | |

| I personally dont like separation. I dont think people will benefit if they divide into many countries. Experience has shown that only huge countries are influential, and they can achieve better economic growth much easier, also because they are less dependent on others. | |

| Well I do support separation when the population of a given region is not benefitted from belonging to a Union and when this Union in fact represents some sort of hindrance to the development of this population. Else it is supportable when the majority of that given population wants to separate and/or cultural differences are too strong. Else whe the population of a given region has a clearly different political agenda than the country it belongs to. For example a stronger left-tendency than other regions.
However, separation is not always good (see USSR).

| Hey, great to see fellow newfoundlanders!
It isn't going to happen any time too soon - we've, over the past half-century, become integrated within the canadian political and economic systems to the point that seperation would rip the guts out of what economy we have. If we were to seperate, we'd betray the trust of Canada (who has poured millions into our province) and might get into a tariff war, Quebec would make a grab for parts of Labrador again, and I shudder to think what programs that we currently enjoy would vanish. Healthcare, anyone?
I know, we've gotten the shaft before. But i'd rather go with the demon that I know then struggle to think what would happen if we had voted for responsible govt...we'd probably still be 20 years behind, without half the security net we have right now and still mucking around in religious bickering. Hell, the denominational school system was gotten rid of only 10 years ago!
Yeah, Newfoundland is its own special culture. So is every other damn region in this country!
And on an ending note, the crosbies thought around confederation that we'd be better off being annexed by the U.S.A. Talk about the devil you don't know...

I'd have to agree with you, we are so intertwind with canada now that, seperation shouldnt event be on the table, and besides, a nation of 500,000, cant really defend itself now can it.I also would like to add that every part of canada has its sepertist movments, wheather it would be the Quebecuia , western canada, alberta, newfoundland, and atlantic canada, the only province that doesnt really have an atleast smal sepertist movment is ontario, which seem to be the most patriotic, and is where the canadian capital lies

| Why are all of you so concerned to be attacked by some other country? Except for Terrorism there is no way that an Anglo-American(or Quebec) or a european country could be attacked. Or better be occupied for more than a few hours, we got each others back, you know? | |
