| The conservative-lead Greek parliament has announced plans to consolidate public worker pension funds and also increase pension costs for the workers themselves. This has sparked massive strikes and protests in Athens as well as other Greek cities. Today (March 19th), 100,000 people marched in Athens to protest the cuts. The conservatives hold a tenuous majority in the Greek parliament (151 of 300), meaning that the Socialist opposition party (which has been leading the protests) is likely to win a considerable amount of seats next election. | Nothing surprising at all. We'll see how far the impact of those raises goes. Anyway, I do't think anything good can come for workers in a capitalist framework. | |

| Increased militancy among trade unionists will likely cause further changes in Greek society after the swing to the left in the last election. | |
