Reunification of Cyprus

The new communist president of Cyprus, Demetris Christofias, is taking steps to reunify the island, a third of which has been under Turkish occupation since 1974.

Most people in Cyprus don't want government to be based on ethnicity, that's why both the Greek and Turkish Cypriots elected a communist president who will unite the country rather than keep it divided along racial lines.

Yes it does, a communist can be trusted to what is in the best interst of everyone, regardless of ethnicity.

i must agree with mattabesta, it is narrow minded to say that only a communist can be trusted to do whats best for the people.

In most cases a communist would do what is best for the people rather than most other politicians but in the case of Cyprus AKEL can be trusted not to have an agenda that is exclusively Turkish or Greek unlike most other parties.

No, people are divided by ethnicity all over the world, not just in Cyprus.
