Government spends money on movies that are meaningless

I heard that state owned television in some countrys are making movies, Now do you think this is a huge waste of money that is almost beneficial to no one or do you think its a Responsible use of money?

Hmmm.... it depends completely on which kind of movie we're talking about...

Soviet Union made hundreds of movies. All of them were made by state owned film production companies. Soyuzmultfilm, Mosfilm are the most popular ones. The movies they have produced are outstanding!

Of course even in a great country like USSR there were sometimes bad movies, but the majority of movies was awesome, and countless quotes from soviet movies are still in use today.

Soviet movies are much better than the boring, always repeating hollywood movies, which have no value at all.

How many hollywood movies become as famous that all people know them even 30 year later? None! ok, there might be some movies, like starwars, Bond and Pretty Woman, but all the rest is crap.

Soviet Union however has at least 20 of such awesome movies which are known by anyone who lives there.

There are plenty Cain mutiny, Casablanca, Many comedies and action films, Hollywood is the richest film capital in the world , the rest are in japan and India. Most of the films in countries like the ussr are propaganda and you should remain vigilant of propaganda

Hollywood has to be acknowledged for some great pieces of filmistic art, however, being the richest doesn't make it the best.

Use of popular culture, publicity and merchandising have a lot to do with that wide audience.

Anyway, and for the sake of objectiveness:

Hollywood comedies: Many of them rely entirely on US humour which in some cases is somewhat lame or simple (the typical and lame scat jokes for example). However they're entertaining.

Hollywood Historical movies: Many if not most count with historical inacuracies and of course are biased.

Hollywood Sci-Fi Movies: Sci-Fi is a hard genre to criticize since, as it says, it's fiction, though sometimes we can see some bias. As for production of the films, well, they're the ones with the best special effects.

Hollywood action movies: One of the genres I hate the most. Usually ultra-biased, innacurate and lame, but at least sometimes well produced and entertaining.

Hollywood Horror movies: In my view the lamest genre of all. Usually the cheapest and most profitable of all. Movies that can cost $5 million and bring back $200 million. I have seen this genre is evolving more and more into gore... I have always disliked it but sometimes I find it entertaining, sometimes even unintentionally funny.

In a nutshell my point is: "bad" and "good" are relative terms, so what is good for me may not be for one and may more or less be to other. This applies to movies of course. Matter of tastes.

in my cuntry, amazingly although a capitalist party has been in rule for 60 years state telivision STILL fucking presists to exist most of the movies made by the state take "care" not to offend enyone humor
and take care to include culture and "learning".

Even in the USA, we've got our corny propaganda that anyone can see through. I'd rather read government printed textbooks watch those pointless movies. Everyone in it talks like he/she is an absolute idiot!

If we're going to keep on trying to educate the youth, we can't use movies as a medium. Leave movies on current issues and historical issues to the experts, who spend their every moment studying it. Not the government, making you see what it wants you to see.

I can't remember the title but it was about the formation of Russia. It was all theological though, hence the ban.

I think that is far worse than spending money making movies.
