| Mr. Pagitinov was the creator of tetris , the addicting game was created in the 1980's (around the time the soviet union was failing) the game was a hit but unfortunately the USSR sold the rights of the game and sold it for them selves, while Pagitinov got nothing and became poor. Later Pagitiniov moved to USA where he obtained the rights and became successful.

So, what do you mean by succesful? That he finally achieved what he wanted? And could you please tell me how this case shows the flaws of communist philosophy?

And how is that part of the communist philosophy? In communism inventors are given credit for what they build and if they're given credit theeir accomplishments are not taken away. Now, if your accomplishments consist of amassing a great fortune which has allowed you to have two mansions and a communist government suceeds and demolishes your two mansions and instead of them builds two residential complexes allowing hundreads of people to have a comfortable enough home, then, for sure taking away your accomplishments won't make YOU happy but some other hundreads yes, and that's what counts. Indeed, not all but most.

| That again forms the question: If I don't get rewarded for my accomplishments, why should I even try to invent something. A Clap on the back and a shiny medal (made of aluminium of course) are not reasons strong enough to dedicate my life to research. Under such circumstances all you can do is to work little as possible and get drunk constantly, to forget, that there is nothing you can long for and achieve. | |

The simple result of your research and interest in the subject you're researching about should be a good enough reason for you to research. That should be your main reward: the product of your research. - Voice of Reason wrote:

Yeah if you're a mediocre person with an inferiority complex which does most of things to increase his ego and selfesteem and which thinks that either research, knoweldge and achievements are not worth by themselves.

| He achieved a lot! Became famous with the game! Many people who have achieved something in socialist countries became Heroes of Labor, or Heroes of the Soviet Union/ Heroes of German Democratic Republic.
They received a good appartment in the city centre, dacha, a car, and a life long pension which was way above other people's income!
Tousands of people received such awards!

| No, people helped the people with outstanding deeds were thanked by the state, not only did they receive material bonuses, but also fame.
People who received two "Hero of USSR" awards for example would have had a statue of them built in the city they were born. There was over 100 of such people in USSR.
If for example a person showed heroism and saved 10 people from a burning building, even though he was not a firefighter, just because he was brave and did what was right, he would receive the award of a hero.
Practically anyone could become a hero. All what was needed to be at the right place at the right time and do what has to be done!

You're saying that Stalinism did not cause the Soviet Union to fail? Perhaps not economically but Stalin was a fascist, no doubt about it. In my eyes fascism makes a county fail, as far as the quality of living goes.

The USSR began failing after Perestroika was implemented but really all it did was speed up the process Stalin had started.
