| anyone celebrating it? I am gonna try and sell literature to the youth at the SF demonstration this weekend and ideally win some radicals over to a trotskyist perspective with my comrades http://www.juneteenth.com/ |

| I may, because it was a big step in the right direction, but slavery hasn't ended in the US. There's still wage-slavery, child labour, and immigrants gettin paid pennies to do legitimate, valuable work. But i did request the day off work so i could go up to Five Points, at least for a couple hours. | |

| wage-slavery does exist but chattel slavery has been smashed
they are not equal forms of exploitation and to put them on the same level is insensitive in my opinion.
Not to say that wage-slavery isn't a terrible form of exploitation, i just feel funny equating them... |

| So according to relt
the thousands of freed slaves fighting alongside the union army to smash chattel slavery is an event to be forgotten because materialism as he understands it suggests that that event is no more important than an internet post count on a site full of studying revolutionary youth...
PRAISE HIM! |

celebrating it honors those that fought for it while taking tome to come together and discuss what still needs to be done. It is a chance for cadre and youth to come together and discuss the best path forward. A chance to learn about history and relate it to the present. A chance to inform those who do not know about it and ensure that they are not forgotten. |

Look you two giuse, Watermelon and Freeman. By the time you read this, all your posts with language in them will be deleted. Anyway, you two guys need to set your priorities straight.
Watermelon, I appreciate your constraint in the matter. Freeman, I'm a little disappointed in you. For reasons that are obvious. You wanna break the rules, please move your rantings in Spamistan.
Thank you. | |

Not to say that wage-slavery isn't a terrible form of exploitation, i just feel funny equating them... I was in no way trying to equate the two. Obviously the wage-slavery is not even close to the horrors of chattel slavery, but i just can't see myself truly happy until it all ends. That said, it doesn't really matter to me how oppressive a system is. It matters to me that it is oppressive. Replacing one form of oppression for another is hardly a victory, but a large step towards victory. Again, i'm sorry if i offended anyone with my first post, but i was not trying to compare wage-slavery to chattel slavery. | |

| ^^ I'm pretty sure it was agreed in the thread about the rules of this site that a censor on foul language is too repressive. They're just words, and i think we should let them be. I gotta say, i'm with shabazz on this one. | |
