Gorby to form new political party
The former president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev has announced that he's planning to create a new political party in Russia. A prominent Russian banker and ex-deputy of the State Duma Alexander Lebedev is helping Gorbachev in this project.

Reportedly, the new organisation will be called "the Independent democratic party of Russia" Its founders want it to take part in 2011 parliamentary elections and challenge the ruling party United Russia.

Aleksandr Lebedev used to be on the Forbes list of the 500 world's richest people, but the recent financial crisis has wiped out up to 60% of his fortune.

Mikhail Gorbachev was the Soviet leader when the Cold War between the Eastern bloc and U.S.-led NATO ended. Also during his presidency, the Soviet Union collapsed and broke up into 15 independent countries

true, but things might be different their than in the west.

I guess the Union of Social Democrats isn't working out then.

United Russia needs a counter weight and that seems to be what Gorby is trying to build with his new party but I doubt he can gain the popularity to make the party a success.

Considering that what Zealot said about most of Russia HATING Gorby, I have to take his word. There is NO way that Gorby will ever get political support from the masses (save the rich businessmen), and even if his party was somehow to pass, their would be no support to it.

Because Gorbachyov is one of the main responsibles of selling Russia out to the west. Thanks to him dozens of ethnical conflicts sprouted, more than 15 countries went to economic and cultural debacle and western empires were allowed to begin exploiting what once was the bastion of worldwide resistance against them.

This resulted in a terrible crisis for Russian people. Most Russians not only dislike him, they hate him. In the 1996 elections he ran for president of the Russian Federation, he got 1% of the votes and during one speech he was even punched in the face by a Russian citizen.

Why should normal people vote for a party where the 2 people in charge are an incopetent ex-leader and a professional thief?

Gorbachev is the failer, his "perestrojka" destroyed all, yes the arm race must be stoped, but he actully said to all soviet republics do what you wannt end they did, they all resign from the CCCP

As for Gorbachyov, read a fucking history book, check some articles. That motherfucker could have saved USSR and all he did was to further sink it and give it the final blow it required to collapse. He is hated all over the former USSR and for v ery good reasons.

Again, restrain from making comments about what you have poor or no knowledge about. It's not wise.
