| Homage to Catalonia would probably be an interesting thing to start with. It's a book George Orwell wrote about his experiences fighting in a communist militia in the Spanish Civil War. | |

| Thanks guys! I know so far only that it was basically anarchists VS fascists, and that the dad from my dog skip lost his leg fighting for the anarchists. (but what I know is probably some what inaccurate.) | |

Actually the republicans were the anarchists and socialists.

Actually the republicans were the anarchists and socialists. Why are you differentiating between anarchists and socialists?

The republicans were democratically elected socialists.
I like the flag of the Second Spanish Republic very much! Present day Spanish socialists use it all the time.

This. However, if you want a book about the Anarchist movement in Spain not just in terms of its social aspect, but in terms of the economic structures used in Catalonia and elsewhere, then check out "The Anarchist Collectives" by Sam Dolgoff. If you can find a book on the CNT, that'd be good, too.

| The Tragedy of Spain by Rudolph Rucker. Easily one of the most comprehensive reviews. Also, if you can get your hands on Chomsky's "American Power and the New Mandarins", he talks about it in short in sections II and III of the chapter "Objectivity and liberal scholarship". It's about 50 pages, and he crams it full of support for the grassroots organization of over 50% of the economy. - Quote :

Indeed, this one is worthy of mention. Never read "The Battle For Spain" by Antony Beevor. It's mostly trash. It focuses only on the war and gives no credence to the overwhelming social revolution that came from the grassroots. Also, i'll be opening a thread about this (this thread probably should've been in the literature section) in order to have a comprehensive, in depth debate about this most significant event in the history of the labor movement (and humanity, as far as i'm concerned).
