Im going to go as far as saying that the events currently happening to Russia are the same that happened to Germany during the 1930's.

A defeat(WWI for Germany, Cold War for Russia) has caused the economy to shake.

A charasmatic leader claims leadership(Hitler, Putin)

A small nation has a small providence that does not want to be part of the small nation (Sudentland(sp?) Ossetia)

I don't think that Putin is an authoritarian dictator like Hitler or Mussolini. He more looks like an oligarchy puppet with charismatic apparence.

watch Russia put like all it's military in foreign countries then Germany invade Moscow. Then France gets scared, and both Russia and Germany invade Poland, and France goes to England for help. That's how England gets involved. Then Germany says they were stopping Russia from taking Poland. And the US helps Germany, as well as Canada. Revolutionaries take over Mexico, with help from Venezuela and Chile. Cuba acquires WMD's. The US invades Cuba, but fails. Cuban troops go in to Florida. Venezuela has air raids over US. Revolutionaries, funded by the Old American government (the current one), and Venezuelan Government. The revolutionaries split half are sided with Capitalists and the other with Venezuela, Chile, and Cuba. Mean while their is a socialist revolt in Berlin, and with German troops at war the people take over the western half of the country.

Russia, in capitalist terms, is enjoying an economical comeback. Else, Russia is not planning to conquer Georgia. Georgia attacked a non-recognized country to preserve its sovereignty over that region whose citizens have been granted Russian nationality and where peacekeeping Russian forces were stationed.

Putin, although at first seemed pretty anti-muslim, sometime in his presidency got a touch with reality and acknoweldged that an anti-mulsim Russian president is something quite stupid (with around 20-30 million muslims in Russia, many of which are pretty patriotic and hard-working russians). No ethnical cleansing shit from that government.

This new war is result of a conflict latent since USSR's dissolution. Things like this make me agree with Putin on his statement that USSR's collapse was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the XX century.

As RedSoviet says, Russian military involvement is yet rather small compared to the actual Russian military capability. Just in the region Russia counts with more than 300 aircraft, not even 20 have been involved for sure. Russia counts on that region with more than 600 tanks yet only around 150 have been sent, and that already surpasses Georgian armour.

Russia could launch a much more powerful strike, yet they don't. If the intentioin was to conquer Georgia, which would indeed have been a much more likely casus-belli for a WWIII, it would have sent a much stronger force and would have already destroyed Georgian infrastructure.

I agree with Zealot, this is s fairly small fight but Russia sent a lot of troops to insure victory. I trust they know what their doing to (not like the US)
