| my dad who's been let go of his job has been trying to get another one. Finallhy something seems like it will work out. He goes to an interview and they say he's too qualified so they are going to give him an interview for a higher position, then the same thing happens, and again. So now he has an interview for something in the corporate branch which they still say he's too qualified for.....and then they call today and offer him a job in sales? So you say he's too qualified so you give him the job of the person that is in the store trying to convince you to buy simething? You decided to give him the entry level job that pays crap? How insulting. You seem so high up on him and tell him he's too qualified so you send him to a place that is even below that? This is just insulting. | |

| "Sorry, you're too qualified for our job" I hadn't heard this joke before.
Another point for capitalism's mediocrity!

| I'd guess they began to think he was too good to be true, so they probably thought they should start him off low, and if he's so good, he'd earn the place quickly, anyway. If he wasn't as good as he seemed, there's be no harm done. They probably wanted the guy, knew he'd be good, and wanted to hire him. I can almost guarentee he won't be passed up for promotions. Assuming your dad is at all good, like I said. | |

You can be a formidable engineer but a terrible salesman. If the man is qualified for something higher than selling shit, why wouldn't he get a post on that?

I heard that in Cuba, some people have PHD, but drive taxis because there is no need for their field of expertise, and anyone can be a decent taxi driver.

Many are in the same condition. 2. That comment doesn't fit the discussion since it's a different case than the one treated in the thread.

No I am saying that many people are too over qualified for some jobs. Can you imagine an accountant that his whole life, studied math, then when he went to get a job they were like "Sorry, you must now work on a oil rig". He would at least need months of training to learn how to operate on it. And my point was, some jobs can be done by almost any AVERAGE person (average to exclude you Zealot [I don't like to drive either])

Yay! Tyrong wins!!! I guess so too. I mean overqualification is no real argument. The real argument lies elsewhere. Either they don't like him as a person, feel he will make trouble to the company or are scared that he would they their positions.
