Mainichi Daily News reports that the man, who tried to access porn sites 177,686 times last July, served as the deputy chief of the city's construction department. He was suspended for three months and demoted, according to the paper.

The Associated Press says no one noticed that the 57-year-old was spending a big chunk of his day viewing pornographic material on the government-owned computer until technicians tried to remove a virus from his computer. How is that possible?

"Each desk is set apart from each other," city official Tomiko Waki tells the wire service.

To be honest, we're a little skeptical about the numbers cited in these reports. If the man worked 40 hours a week, he would have had to access about 542 pornographic webpages every hour of every work day in order to reach 780,000 total page views between June 2007 and February 2008.

The pace is even greater when you look at the numbers they cite from last July. To reach those heights, the man would have to look at 1,111 pages an hour.
