| While I think it's wonderful that there is a holiday that brings families together, let's not forget how this holiday was founded: on a total amnesia of the history of the indigenous peoples of this continent. Please, spend time with your family today, and enjoy it, but don't forget that this holiday is based on a lie, a lie that claims that the Native Americans and our ancestors coexisted peacefully. Our horrible actions against the Native Americans constitute one of the earliest examples of genocide, and we shouldn't allow a fat turkey and some stuffing to blind us from the truth of the horrible circumstances that surround the founding of this holiday.
So have solidarity with all native and oppressed peoples today. Keep them in your memories (or your prayers, if you're the praying type).
Also, just so you all are aware of the ludicrous amount of propagating it takes to cover up our dark past - due mostly to our public education camps - I would like to show you all a status update posted by a friend of mine on Facebook:
"On this day let us remember the pilgrims who crossed the sea in search of freedom and religious liberty and found it, in addition to friendship from the indegenous population which allowed for their survival in the New World. They thanked he Providence for their blessings, let us thank Him for ours. :-)"
This made me sick to my stomach.
Again, enjoy your time with your loved ones, but don't forget the tragedy that transpired. The study of history is supposed to arm us with the truth. Don't let the truth be forgotten.

| No one says they lived peacefully. Only that they ate one meal peacefully. I never heard once that they lived peacefully. Looking back, they oly ever said they had this meal peacefully. TO a young kid, that of crouse means they DID live in peace, but it's not what they said. And any other time they were pretty honest with me. You know, telling about the killing and such.
Besides, does ANYBODY even care anymore what half these holidays are "about"?

| Besides, we al know the true meaning of Thanksgiving. It's when the pioneers and natives got together in peace and understanding....
TO FIGHT THE EVIL ZOMBIE MENACE!
It was oly when the natives betrayed the pioneers to the terror that was the zombie horde that history as we know it began.
See. All the smallpox was revenge.

| Precisely this kind of Holidays help diseminate misinformation on history.
What kind of conclusions can a kid draw from a holiday that is entirely based on the premise of peaceful coexistance between natives and pilgrims (fancy word for inmigrants, I should add)? Of course that they had a peacful coexistance and mutual tolerance. Some may even start developing the false idea that their nation has traditionally been tolerant to other cultures and peoples and that their nation is entirely based on tolerance, respect and that it can't be otherwise. Next thing you know, they're literally freeing the shit out of Iraqis because they have a racist leader that kills Kurds or so said CNN.
