Michael Wittmann

Michael Wittmann (April 22, 1914 - August 8, 1944) was a German SS-Hauptsturmführer during World War II. Wittman's crews (chiefly gunner Balthasar "Bobby" Woll, also a Knight's Cross holder) are credited with the confirmed destruction of 138 tanks and 132 anti-tank guns, along with an unknown number of other armoured vehicles. Together with Johannes Bölter, Ernst Barkmann, Otto Carius and Kurt Knispel (the top scoring German panzer ace of the war with 168 confirmed tank kills).

he was SS that shows he was a true nazis, if he had been in werhmacht and fighting for his country... then he is ok. aslong as he havnt killed inosents.

Being in the SS troops implies more than that. The SS were not only the elite troops of the 3rd Reich they were the political military arm of the Nazi party.

Is he relatively a hero? Yes, for fascist. If performing the job of the SS succesfully is to be considered heroic by someone, then that someone ought to sympthize with SS's job.

This guy was not a "normal" soldier. He was from a very special, particularily politicized German unit: The SS.
