kind of...the worker's beaurocratic regime is the ruling force but they don't necessarily constitute a class

The USSR was indeed a negation of capitalism in the orthodox sense; but it was only a partial negation. Even in a "socialist" society you cannot completely do away with a capitalist system when surrounded by capitalist countries that wish to, utterly and completely, destroy you. That's where Trotsky and i meet. We will not completely do away with capitalist tendencies until the majority decides it's time to do away with them.

Analysis of the USSR is crucial because it is an indicator of someone's position. Stalinists say healthy worker's state, trots say degenerated, shachtmanites say bureaucratic collectivism and ultraleftists say state capitalism.

He explained how the kronstadts were just a bunch of petty bourgeois idealists and how giving all power to the soviets at that time would have led to a return to capitlism.
