After Italian right wing prime minister Berlusconi passed the law Gelmini, which will reduce the government spending on universities by 1.4 billion Euro and will fire 70.000 professors, almost a million students have gathered from all over Italy to protest in Rome.

Berlusconi responded to this protest: "It is a scandalous left-wing, which wants to change facts"

90% of all schools remained closed in protest to this new law.

That's also the reason why there is almost a million demonstrants.
Imagine what will happen to the students, if 70.000 professors will be missing. There will be overcrowded classrooms and if will be hard to study the major you want.

If our students in Austria rallied for such a huge protest 7 years ago, I would have never had to pay university fees. Austrian government is more scared of their people than fascist Berlusconi.

One has to wonder, why the hell would a leader care about a students' strike? Also, inevitable law +1.

Well, but when they get angry, shops will be smashed, cars will burn, parliaments will be stormed, and police will be fought

This creates costs and also a lot of discontent amongst the population, which will not vote for him again and his party will loose popularity.

Burn a car buy another; Burn a building, restore it. It all helps this economic system which doesn't serve at all to satisfy needs but to keep people working for the capitalists' interests.

Students, by the act of studying, do not create a commodity that is going to be sold.
