| As you probably already know, Fidel has, sadly, stepped down as president of Cuba. I'd like to know if you think he was a good president or not. | |

I suggest reading a book called "Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life" by Jon Lee Anderson. I know its a book about Che, but there's quite a lot about Fidel in it as well.

He was not a dictator, he came to power with the support of the vast majority of people has has stayed in power so long because he successively won elections.

Is that why Miami is full of Cuban refugees? Like you said, they live in Miami and not Cuba. The Cuban bourgeoisie in Miami has no sense of what is happening in Cuba and never has never been in touch with the needs of people unlike the Communist Party.

The Cuban economy is on the state its n largely because of the US embargo and Raul probably plans on opening up more of the economy to foreign enterprise but Cuba will never adopt capitalist methods.

But this person was in power, because Fidel, who indeed won election multiple times stepped down and gave the power away. But after some time people wanted him back, so he returned.
