| Columbian president Alvaro Uribe has announced intentions to indite Hugo Chavez on "Supporting Genocide" by giving monetary backing to the Columbian rebel group FARC. President Uribe claims that a laptop recovered from the recent FARC raid in Ecuador shows that the Venezuelan government was funding the guerrilla army. The Venezuelan government denied this claim. Although Uribe has said that he does not wish to make wars with his neighbors, Columbia has over 250,000 troops armed and trained by the US, whereas Ecuador and Venezuela have a combined total of 172,000 troops. An emergency meeting of the Organization of American States has been called in hopes to diffuse the crisis. | It's all Uribe's fault. Venezuela and Equador are only protecting their sovereignty and Nicaragua has done the right thing. | |

| No kidding. You realize Uribe receives 300 million dollars a year from the US government. He also has a military force of 250,000 armed and trained by the US. If he's smart, he'll keep his hunts within the Columbian border. However I think he will use the whole "Chavez sponsors terrorist bullshit" to pursue the US agenda in South America.
And that's another thing. The money Chavez gave FARC was in exchange for the 40 hostages they were to release, that is before Columbia killed Raul Reyes in Ecuador...

I would imagine something like that happening. The thing is, we don't know what the US will do to interfere because, by the time congress is "convinced" that Chavez is "a terrorist" we'll have a new president.

| John Mccain or Hilary Clinton would do it in an instant. Obama could go either way... | |

If its Hillary or McCain they'll gladly invade Venezuela if its Obama then eventually he will be forced to bow to capitalist class and intervene in some way.

If terrorism is to systematically induce fear to a certain population, Chávez is at best a minor sponsor and one of the least relevant ones in this world. The FARC are being accused of "genocide". Few accusations can be so poorly substanciated.
